Sick Days

It's one of the dirty-little-secrets of being a stay-at-home mom: you don't get any sick days. A fever used to mean lying in bed, sleeping and watching TV. My biggest challenge was drinking as much Ginger Ale as I could. I even got to eat my favorite foods when I was recovering. Pop tarts. Fish stix. Pot pies. Illness was uncomfortable--even miserable sometimes--but it had its benefits.

Not anymore.

Which is why when I came down with the flu last Thurs, I couldn't help fantasizing for a few moments about lying in bed, resting, drinking, reading, nursing the little bug right out of my system...then I took 2 more Tylenol, popped a cough drop, and got back to work.

Thank God I love my job. I love my job. I love my job...

  1. I know exactly what you mean. I was sick Friday through yesterday and really just wanted to lie in bed and rest. Luckily, my girls are old enough that I just let them watch more TV than usual and I rested on the sofa while they watched The Smurfs. But I do sometimes long for a sick day...
