Noah has Luke Skywalker--who looks an awful lot like a cowboy from our Wild West miniatures--riding inside a McD's toy Darth Vader. The purpose for his visitation is a bit unclear, but the characters are hardly surprising. While Noah has yet to read or watch a Star Wars story, he continues to be enamored with the SW characters...quite possibly an extension of the fact that he idolizes his cousins, SW fans. His combined adoration and ignorance makes for some funny moments, like when Noah pretended to be Vader and started roaring at us. Dinosaurs roar. Lions roar. Villains roar. Vader must roar. Someone tried breathing heavily at him the other day when Noah mentioned Vader. Noah turned to me as if to say, What's wrong with him? ;)
Peter Pan Picnic
After reading the book several times, Noah declared himself Peter Pan and his playset clubhouse his "pilot ship." Only "good pilots" allowed. On this fall afternoon, Pan ate a healthy snack in the clubhouse, prepared by his loyal friend, Mommy Wendy, also known on occasion as "Smee." When accompanied by her mini crawler, he's the caterpillar from VeggieTales' Jonah. (Pan's equal-opportunity, so long as you're good and can wield a sword. Though admittedly the caterpillar often tries to eat his sword, so that bit's rather squishy.)
"NAPPING"

The car bed is still a hit, tripling as a ship or train during his daily "naptime," which sometimes includes sleep.
Who Wants Grass??
This tiny bit of failed grass (i.e. dirt) next to our house has a magnetic appeal. It's the perfect size for the boy who loves fist-sized trucks. We may have to break down and get a real sandbox one of these days...
Everyone says toddlers "soak up" info "like a sponge." Many suggest various exercises parents can use to stuff their kids full of information while it's still so easy for them to learn. I'm not ready to drill our 3-year-old in academics, but I have at various points attempted to teach him the alphabet, counting, and a Bible verse (Jn 3:16 as a rap). He's not having any of it. He gets quiet or silly but not the least bit eager. Instead, I'm finding it's when I don't try to teach him that he learns and asks for more. Last night, we started talking about the manna God sent his people in the dessert. We opened up Exodus 14, and I started reading/paraphrasing. He'd interrupt with questions, we'd discuss, and then he'd say "Keep reading!" We read 3-4 chapters in one sitting from my no-pictures, no-lift-the-flaps Bible! Granted he loves pictures and flaps, but it was just one example of the unplannable, unpredictable, teachable moments I've been discovering in my son's life. I am SO thankful they exist and that I can be around enough to catch them.
Happy
Noah smiled early and laughed easily as a baby, and he hasn't changed a bit. Of course he's a toddler, but I can't help thinking he's the sweetest, happiest toddler I've met. He's patient, obedient, imaginative, and excited about life. It is such a joy to be the momma of such a joyful boy.
