Last week may have been his first birthday, and next week will likely be his last nursing, but today Isaac officially left infancy behind: he got a big-boy haircut. One of many milestones he's passed this summer, presented in random order because it's too much trouble to rearrange them...
| Aug 1: I have learned from my first two that lollipops attract hair, so this time we used a smoothie as his tether, and it worked like a charm. No tears, unless you count mine... (jk) |
| July 25: The t.p. mess...another right of passage. |
| June 13: Like eating/wearing your first spaghetti and meatballs... |
| July 18: Or getting possessive when your friend's in your seat... |
| July 25: Discovering trains... |
| July 18: Pulling up to stand and then... Yikes! Put that camera down and rescue me, Mommy! |
| June 30: Exploring with Daddy... |
| July 11: Traumatizing Mommy during her showers... |
| July 9: Preferring sheltered spaces (or obstacle courses, depending on your perspective)... |
| May 29: Crawling! Everywhere... |
| June 19: Playing with bowls and cups at Mommy's feet in the kitchen... |
| Waking up to presents on July 24th! |
| Followed by his first donut (glazed munchkin), whole. |
I cannot say enough about what a joy it is to have Isaac in our lives. When he's tired, he'll find me and sit back on his heels with his arms up so I'll pick him up. Then, he'll lean into me with his head against my chest and suck his thumb. It's heavenly. When he meets someone new, he'll turn his head slightly away and peak out the side with a little smile on his face -- it's like someone taught him how to act coy (not me - promise). He laughs easily (especially at Noah, who LOVES to play with "his twin" as Noah calls him), and he never stays unhappy long (especially if I have the Ergo handy).
He'll eat almost anything, and when he's done, you know partially because he does the "all done" sign with his hands and partially because he then throws it on the floor -- his first infraction that has required consistent discipline. He usually takes one long and one short nap each day and is wonderfully flexible about when those naps occur -- especially because I can transfer him from the carseat to the crib and HE WILL KEEP SLEEPING (hallelujah!).
As with each of our children, it is hard to let go of him being our literal baby, but it is miraculous to see him growing and becoming and revealing who he is.
