Then last Wednesday, he told me he had to go poo-poo. I asked if he wanted to go on the potty, and he did! We read a book together and he pooped. Then I gave him a chocolate chip ("a BIG one" vs. the mini-chips we used to decorate cookies). To my shock, he did the same thing again on Thursday. Then I left town Fri-Sun. Today, I asked him a couple times if he wanted to go potty but he was having too much fun doing something else.
So of course the big question is, what do I do now? Should we jump right into full potty-training? or let him take it gradually? I thought maybe with the New Year I'd tackle these questions. In the meantime, tips are welcomed!!
That is exciting!! I'd say it's definitely possible he's ready to get more serious about it. With the 4yo, I talked about it a lot, and started giving him more frequent opportunities to go potty. He went back and forth about being interested in the topic for a few months, and I didn't push it -- but I celebrated any success he had. Right before he turned 3, his teacher said to me, you need to start putting him in underwear every day. I said, Really??? I don't think so! But I did, and she was right. Within a week, he was fully trained.
