Winter takes a beating on facebook, so I've taken up the defense with a condensed list of why I love it - particularly in Nashville, where it's never very cold for very long.Winter is...
- Cozy: Curling up inside with a book, a cup of tea, a friend, or a movie is cozier just knowing it's blustery outside.
- Invigorating: My blood pumps and my legs move faster when it's cold outside, giving me new energy to run in the 40s and 50s (vs. hot weather which turns me into a sleepy blob).
- Covering: Warm clothes are more comfortable and flattering (for us non-super-models, particularly post-baby).
- Festive: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines. 'nough said.
- Bugless: No mosquitos, aphids, flies, and other creepy-crawly things that favor the hot and humid.
- Poetic: Leafless trees. Visible breath. Gray skies. The tyranny of the hot and blinding sun is put on hold while the world rests.
- Guiltless: I like being inside where I'm comfortable and productive. Temperate weather makes me feel like I should be outside appreciating it all the time.
- Fun: Snow. Sleds. Hot chocolate/cider/tea. Fireplaces. Blankets. Comfort food. Skiing. Crunchy grass. Mittens. Etc.
I love this post! I wouldn't want winter to last all 12 months, but it is enjoyable for these exact reasons. Nice to read that someone else agrees with me :)
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree and do love winter for many of these exact reasons, this particular winter in Nashville has seemed longer, harsher and grayer than winters past. Not sure if this has to do with my own circumstances that have kept me trapped inside far more than normal... But it's funny that you wrote this since I was thinking of posting about my heart being turned towards spring!
